Coimbatore, also known as Kovai and Koyamuthur, is a major city in South India, Tamil Nadu. It is surrounded by Western Ghats. Bordered by Palakkad , Kerala .Coimbatore is the second largest city in Tamil Nadu after Chennai . All major cities in South are in road reach of 5–8 hours like Chennai, Bengaluru and kochi.

The region around Coimbatore was ruled by the Cheras during the Sangam period between the 1st and the 4th centuries CE and called as KONGU region . In 1804, Coimbatore was established as the capital of the newly formed Coimbatore district and in 1866, it was accorded municipality status with Robert Stanes as its chairman. The city experienced a textile boom in the early 19th century due to the decline of the cotton industry in Mumbai. Post Independence, Coimbatore has seen rapid growth due to industrialisation and is one of the largest exporters of jewellery, wet grinders, poultry and auto components; the "Coimbatore Wet Grinder" and the "Kovai Cora Cotton" are recognised as Geographical Indications by the Government of India. Being a hub of textile industry in South India, the city is referred to as the "Manchester of South India". Coimbatore also called as “Pump City”, supplies nearly half of India’s requirements of motors and pumps.
Tamil is the official language and Kongu Tamil , a dialect, is predominantly spoken. The city's population is predominantly Hindu with minority Muslim and Christian population. Major Hindu temples in the city include Marudamalai Murugan Temple(25km),Perur Patteeswarar Temple, Eachanari Vinayagar Temple, Dhyanalinga Temple and Adiyogi Shiva(40km).. The mosques on Oppanakara Street and Big Bazaar Street date back to the 18th century . Christian missions date back to 17th century when permission was granted by the Nayak rulers to set up churches in the region. Sikh Gurudwaras and Jain temples are also present in Coimbatore.
Coimbatore cuisine is predominantly south Indian with rice as its base. Most local restaurants still retain their rural flavor, with many restaurants serving food over a banana leaf. Eating on a banana leaf is an old custom and imparts a unique flavor to the food and is considered healthy. Idly, dosa, paniyaram are popular dishes. Arisi paruppu sadam and sambar sadam, made from a mixture of dal and rice, is a recipe that existed from the 4th century CE that is unique to the area.pallipalayam chicken and nallampatti chicken, kongu naatu kozhi kulambu are famous local non veg spicy dishes.

By Flight:
Coimbatore airport is an international airport allowing for both domestic and international flights to Coimbatore. The airport is located 5 km from Le meridian Hotel. Regular international flights include those from Sharjah and Singapore. From the airport, cabs are available for hire to reach other parts of the city.
By Train:
Coimbatore Junction is the main railway station of the city enabling regular trains to Coimbatore from major cities of the country. There are also other major railway stations in the city including Coimbatore North Junction and Podanur Junction. Railway station is situated 15 km from Le meridian hotel.
